President Joe Biden took the dramatic step today of requiring Israel to, within 45 days, write a note to claim that it is in compliance with international and US law that it is plainly already in violation of. The bold move by Biden is the strongest finger wag yet in his performative opposition to the ongoing campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing.
In a speech at the Rose Garden, President Biden confused Benjamin Netantyahu with David Ben-Gurion, the former Prime Minister of Israel who died in 1973, and explained his rationale: “Israel has gone too far in Gaza, which is why I’m assigning them this creative writing assignment to explain how they are in compliance with international law that the ICJ has already preliminarily concluded they are in violation of. This act, which is a new policy that I’m claiming doesn’t change policy, will help give me an excuse to continue to take no real meaningful action to change the reality on the ground for another 45 days, and outsources the legal obligations I have so I avoid responsibility for my own complicity. This hopefully will be enough time for famine to wipe out the rest of the Palestinians in Gaza so that any additional action will be futile. Meanwhile I will continue to seek an additional $14 Billion to give Prime Minister Ben Gurion all the pita bread he needs to clean up the hummus.”
